Rice Purity Score Meaning
Your score is 100 minus the number of items you checked. Here is what each range usually means.
| Score | What it means |
|---|---|
| 90-100 | Freshly Sealed You're about as unmarked as this test gets. Most of the classic rites of passage are still ahead of you, and that is completely normal. Everyone starts somewhere, and this is a fine place to start. |
| 78-89 | Barely Broken In You've dipped a toe into a few of the usual firsts, nothing wild. Think an early crush, a late night out, maybe a small lie or two. You're mostly still playing it safe, and safe has its own kind of fun. |
| 65-77 | Right in the Middle You've got a handful of real stories now, nothing that would make anyone gasp. This is a very common, very normal place to land for your age, you're in good company. |
| 52-64 | Comfortably Experienced You've lived a bit: parties, relationships, a few decisions you laugh about now. You're squarely in the range most people your age land in, and there is nothing unusual about that. |
| 39-51 | Well-Traveled You've been around the block more than a few times. Your list of stories is getting long, and probably pretty entertaining at a dinner party. No judgment here, just mileage. |
| 26-38 | Seasoned You've packed a lot of living into not that many years. Most of the classic questions on this list, you already have an answer and a story for. That is a life being explored, not a problem to fix. |
| 13-25 | Certified Veteran There isn't much left on this list that would catch you off guard. You've said yes to nearly everything the test throws at you, and you clearly don't scare easily. |
| 0-12 | The Stuff of Legend You've said yes to almost everything on here. Whatever that says about you, it isn't really about purity anymore, it's about living without a lot of brakes. Hopefully the stories were worth it. |
What Is the Rice Purity Test?
A quick, honest check-in on how much of the classic "have you ever" list applies to you. Answer 100 simple yes or no questions and get an instant purity score, along with a plain-English breakdown of what it tends to mean.
This test asks direct questions about sex, drugs, alcohol, and legal trouble, written plainly rather than vaguely. It's intended for people 18 and older. If that's not you yet, no rush, the test will still be here later.
How the Test Works
Answer each of the 100 statements with a simple yes or no. There is no time limit and no way to fail, the test is a mirror, not a judge. When you finish, you get an instant purity score plus a breakdown by category.
How Your Score Is Calculated
You start at 100 points. Each "yes" answer lowers your score by one point, so a perfect 100 means you answered no to everything on the list, and a lower number means more of the classic list applies to you. The score is a fun snapshot, not a verdict, people land anywhere between 0 and 100 and all of it is normal.
Where the Rice Purity Test Came From
The Rice Purity Test is widely believed to have started as an informal student tradition at Rice University, used as a lighthearted way for incoming students to compare notes on common college experiences. Its exact origins are murky and undocumented, and the wording has reportedly changed many times as it passed from campus to campus and, later, around the internet. Today it is less a Rice University artifact than a shared cultural checklist, taken by students everywhere out of curiosity more than anything else.
What Is a Good Rice Purity Score?
There is no good or bad score. The Rice Purity Test is a list of common life experiences, so the number mostly reflects age and circumstance, not character. A 17-year-old and a 30-year-old will usually land in very different places, and both can be completely typical for where they are in life.
If you want a point of reference, compare yourself with people your own age rather than with the whole list. The age table on this page shows live averages from people who took the test here.
What Is the Average Rice Purity Score?
Averages you see online are usually estimates without a clear source. Here we show real averages from people who took this test on personalitytest.io, broken down by age group, and we only publish a group once enough people are in it for the number to mean something.
Scores tend to drop with age simply because there has been more time for the experiences on the list to happen.
Is the Rice Purity Test Accurate?
It is accurate in the narrow sense that your score is a simple count: 100 minus the number of items you checked. It is not a psychological measure and says nothing about your values, maturity, or worth. Treat it as a conversation starter, not a diagnosis.
If you are curious about how you actually think and decide, a validated personality test like the Big Five or the 16 personality types will tell you far more.
Your Answers Stay Private
When you finish, we save your score and how many items you checked in each category, so your report can show a breakdown. We never store which individual boxes you ticked, and your report is visible only to you when you are logged in.
FAQ
What is the Rice Purity Test?
It's a self-assessment made up of 100 yes or no questions covering things like relationships, partying, substances, and honesty. It started as a casual student tradition and has since spread well beyond its original campus, mostly because it's a fun way to compare notes with friends.
How is my purity score calculated?
You start at 100. Each question you answer "yes" to subtracts one point, so your final score reflects how many of the 100 items apply to you. Answering "no" to everything keeps you at 100, answering "yes" to everything brings you to 0.
Is a higher or lower score better?
Neither, really. A higher score means fewer of the listed experiences apply to you, a lower score means more of them do. It's a snapshot of experience, not a measure of character, and there's no version of this test where one number makes you a better person than another.
Is this test scientific or an official measure of anything?
No. It's a casual, crowd-sourced style checklist meant for fun and conversation, not a clinical or scientific instrument. Treat your score the way you'd treat a fun fact about yourself, not a diagnosis.
Will anyone else see my answers?
Your individual answers are yours. If you choose to share your score or invite friends to compare, only the summary you choose to share goes out, never your raw answers.
Can I retake the test or compare results with friends?
Yes. You can retake the test whenever you like, and you can send friends an invite link to take it themselves and see your scores side by side.
What are the Rice Purity Test questions?
There are 100 yes or no questions that start mild (crushes, curfews, first dates) and become more personal toward the end, covering romance, nightlife, substances, rules, intimacy and risk. You can read all of them on this page before you check anything.
What does a score of 100 mean?
A score of 100 means you checked none of the items. Every checked item lowers the score by one point, so a score of 70 means you checked 30 items.
Do you store my answers?
No. We store your overall score and the number of items checked in each category, never which specific items you checked.
